As part of activities to mark the International Day for the Boy Child, Nigeria’s Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, has emphasized the critical role of mentorship and proper guidance in grooming boys to become responsible leaders of tomorrow.

Speaking during a commemorative event held in Abuja, Comrade Olawande called on parents, guardians, and community leaders to prioritize the upbringing of boys through consistent mentorship, values-based education, and leadership training. He stressed that no individual can grow into a capable leader without a solid foundation of mentorship and discipline.

“The present administration is committed to improving the lives of boys and other young people by initiating programs that promote their well-being, leadership potential, and positive engagement in nation-building,” the Minister stated.

Highlighting the significance of the day’s theme, “Grooming the Boy Child and Leveraging Mentorship for Leadership and Governance,” the Minister reaffirmed the government’s dedication to creating opportunities for boys to thrive as future leaders in governance, business, and community development.

The event also featured a spoken word performance by young Michael Michael, who delivered a powerful piece on the importance of raising disciplined, well-mentored children, emphasizing that a nation’s future rests on the values instilled in its youth.

Stakeholders present at the gathering agreed that strengthening mentorship programs for boys is essential in addressing the leadership gaps and social challenges faced by young males in society today.
