The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspect over an alleged attempted child kidnapping incident in Ilorin, the state capital.

In an official statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the suspect — who claimed to be a native of Osun State — was apprehended by a joint patrol team comprising police operatives and local vigilante members during a routine operation in the area.

According to the statement, the suspect was rescued from an irate mob who had accused him of attempting to abduct a child and were on the verge of administering jungle justice before the security team intervened.

“The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations are ongoing to establish the facts of the case and identify any other persons possibly connected to the incident,” SP Ejire-Adeyemi said.

The police further disclosed that, as of the time of the statement, complainants involved in the matter had yet to report at the Command Headquarters to provide vital information that could aid detectives in unraveling the full details of the incident.

The Kwara State Police Command also used the opportunity to warn members of the public against taking the law into their hands. The statement strongly cautioned against mob actions and jungle justice, emphasizing that such acts are illegal and could lead to miscarriages of justice.

The Command assured residents of Ilorin and the entire state of its continued commitment to ensuring public safety and protecting the rights of all citizens.
