The Registrar, Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Oloyede, has described the ongoing strike by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) as unnecessary.

Professor Oloyede stated this when the university admission regulatory agency in collaboration with a US based agency “Project Care ” presented multi-billion naira medical equipment to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) in Ilorin,Kwara state.

He said that the incessant strike by unions in the nation’s tertiary institution was capable of causing irreparable damage on both the students and the nation.

Professor Oloyede urged federal government and the unions to find ways of putting an end to the strike.

He explained that the intervention of the Board in the area of health care delivery was to support government’s efforts aimed at addressing the huge medical infrastructural gap.

In a remark, a former chairman of the Board, Dr. Emmanuel Ndukwe, described the medical intervention as the beginning of the journey towards checking medical tourism in Nigeria.

In an address , the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the UITH, Professor Yussuf Abudullah, said the provision would go a long way to assuage and relieve the management of the hospital financially.
