The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration has inaugurated a new Chinese Corner at Government Secondary School (GSS) Nyanya, expanding cultural and educational cooperation between Nigeria and China.

The project, supported by China Geoengineering Corporation (CGC) under its corporate social responsibility initiative, adds to the growing network of Chinese Corners across Abuja schools. The initiative is coordinated by the FCT Education Secretariat to broaden learning opportunities, promote Mandarin, and strengthen people-to-people diplomacy.

Speaking at the commissioning, FCT Secretary for Education, Dr. Danlami Hayo, hailed the project as “a shining testament to the enduring partnership between Nigeria and China in education and cultural exchange.”

He continued:

“Only yesterday, we were at Government Secondary School Tudun-Wada to commission a similar center. Today, GSS Nyanya joins the growing list of 15 Chinese Corners across the FCT. This milestone underscores our administration’s commitment to providing quality, accessible, and affordable education for all.”

Dr. Hayo praised CGC for going beyond infrastructure to support education and cultural development.

“CGC is not just building classrooms; they are building bridges of friendship, providing jobs for our youths, and adding to Nigeria’s GDP through taxes and economic activities. We are indeed grateful,” he said.

Chairman of the FCT Secondary Education Board, Dr. Sani Muhammad-Ladan, emphasized that the initiative will prepare students for global engagement by opening access to Mandarin lessons, scholarships, and cultural exchange opportunities.

The Director of the China Cultural Center in Nigeria, Mr. Yang Jianxing, described the project as a platform for deeper cross-cultural understanding.

“The Chinese Corner is more than just a classroom. It is a bridge narrowing the hearts of young people from both countries and a window for Nigerian students to observe the world,” he said.

Similarly, CGC Nigeria Limited’s Executive Director, Mr. Che Yuan, said the company was proud to invest in the country’s future through education.

“Education plays a vital role in social development. By supporting this initiative, we are investing in future generations who will write new chapters of cultural exchange and friendship between Nigeria and China.”

Since its launch in 2013 at GSS Garki, the Chinese Corner initiative has grown to 15 centers across the FCT. According to the FCT Education Secretariat, the project serves as a model of collaboration between government and development partners, enriching the curriculum while exposing students to global opportunities.
