The Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has extended her heartfelt congratulations to four outstanding Nigerians in the United Kingdom on their recent, record-breaking election victories.
In an official statement issued by Mr. Gabriel Odu of the Media, Public Relations, and Protocol Unit of NiDCOM, Dabiri-Erewa praised Dr. Adekunle Osibogun, Princess Opeyemi Bright, Councillor Jason Utitofon Jackson, and Councillor Sunny Lambe for their remarkable achievements at the polls.
Highlighting the significance of the wins, she celebrated Princess Opeyemi Bright’s emergence as the youngest Mayor of the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham — a historic first. Similarly, Cllr. Jason Utitofon Jackson’s election as the new Mayor of Islington marked a milestone, as he becomes the first Black person to occupy the prestigious position.
Also receiving commendation was Cllr. Sunny Lambe, recognized for his distinguished years of service and now the new Mayor of Southwark. Additionally, Dr. Adekunle Osibogun was re-elected as Councillor to both Buckinghamshire Council and Buckingham Town Council, reaffirming his leadership and commitment to his constituency.
Dabiri-Erewa described the victories as record-breaking milestones that reflect the honorees’ dedication, resilience, and determination in public service abroad. She lauded their relentless pursuit of excellence and urged them to continue exemplifying the spirit of Nigerians in the diaspora.
“Your historic achievements are a testament to what Nigerians can accomplish on the global stage with courage and vision,” she stated. Dabiri-Erewa also offered prayers for their continued strength, wisdom, and protection as they undertake their new responsibilities.
This wave of electoral successes underscores the growing influence and positive contributions of Nigerians in the UK political space, as well as the rising profile of diaspora leaders shaping local governance abroad.
