Nigerian lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju has criticised pastors who are leading prayers against insecurity, kidnappings, and the release of the abducted Kebbi schoolgirls, urging them to match their words with action.
In a strongly worded statement shared on his X handle, Adeyanju challenged religious leaders to return their police escorts if they truly believe in the spiritual protection they preach to their congregations. He argued that the security officers attached to pastors could be redeployed to safeguard ordinary Nigerians who have no access to police protection.
According to Adeyanju:
“All the pastors praying against kidnap, rescue of Kebbi school girls and end to insecurity should practice what they preach and return all their police escorts back to the government so these officers can go police the country.”
He further stated that pastors should rely on anointing oil and faith, just as many of their followers do, if they insist on positioning prayer as the primary solution to national security problems.
Adeyanju stressed that Nigerians must stop allowing religious leaders to “use their heads,” noting that functional governments, not churches, are responsible for protecting citizens.
Drawing a comparison, he added:
“Israel has IRON DOME to protect its citizens.”
