President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his planned trips to South Africa and Angola following two major security incidents in Kebbi and Kwara States.
The President had been scheduled to depart Abuja for Johannesburg to attend the 20th G20 Summit before proceeding to Luanda for the 7th AU–EU Summit.
However, he suspended his travel plans to receive detailed security briefings on the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and the deadly attack on worshippers at the Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State.
Responding to a request from the Kwara State Governor, President Tinubu ordered the immediate deployment of additional security personnel to Eruku and the wider Ekiti Local Government Area. He also directed the Nigeria Police Force to track down and apprehend the bandits behind the church attack.
The President is awaiting comprehensive reports from Vice President Kashim Shettima, who visited Kebbi State on his behalf, as well as updates from the DSS and the police on the situation in Kwara.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to public safety, President Tinubu instructed security agencies to intensify efforts to ensure the safe rescue and return of the 24 schoolgirls abducted in Kebbi.
