The father of the prime suspect arrested over the brutal killing of a housewife and her six children in Kano has urged authorities to execute his son instead of keeping him in custody at public expense.
Mallam Auwal, father of the suspect identified as Umar, made the call during a radio interview after the shocking attack in the Dorayi Chiranchi area of Kano metropolis sparked nationwide outrage.
The victims — Fatima Abubakar, 35, and her six children — were allegedly murdered after Umar and other assailants broke into their home at Dorayi Gidan Kwari.
President Bola Tinubu, in a statement released over the weekend, condemned the killings and ordered a thorough investigation into the incident.
Speaking to journalist, Auwal distanced himself from his son, describing him as a disgrace to society and insisting that Umar should be eliminated.
He added:
“I don’t even want them to waste time on prosecution. Umar and his likes are supposed to be eliminated. They are not supposed to be remanded and fed with taxpayers’ money.”
The grieving father also commended the police for their swift response to the case, saying he had already “sacrificed” his son and would not participate in any court proceedings.
“Neither my wife nor I will attend the trial,” he stated.
Umar is currently in police custody and is accused of murdering his aunt, Fatima Abubakar, and her children in broad daylight.
The victims have been identified as:
Maimuna (17)
Aisha (16)
Bashir (13)
Abubakar (10)
Faruk (7)
Abdussalam (1½ years)
Police authorities confirmed that the suspect confessed to the killings. He also allegedly admitted involvement in a previous attack in Tudun Yola, where two housewives were murdered and their home was set ablaze.
The tragic incident has intensified calls for justice, with many Nigerians demanding that all suspects linked to the crime face the full weight of the law.
