Liverpool Football Club has condemned the racist abuse directed at its players, describing the behavior as “utterly unacceptable.”

In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, the club labeled the abuse as “dehumanising, cowardly and rooted in hate,” stressing that racism has no place in football, society, or online spaces.

Liverpool emphasized that players are human beings, not targets for abuse, adding that anonymous attacks online continue to damage both the sport and the platforms that allow such behavior to persist.

“All of football must stand together and say, clearly and without compromise, that this will not be tolerated. Words of condemnation alone are not sufficient,” the club stated.

The club also called on social media companies to take greater responsibility, noting that they have the tools and resources to tackle online abuse but often fail to act effectively.

Liverpool warned that unchecked racist abuse continues to harm players, their families, and the wider football community.

The statement confirmed the club’s ongoing support for defender Ibrahima Konaté, adding that efforts are being made in collaboration with relevant authorities to identify and hold those responsible accountable.

However, Liverpool stressed that the responsibility should not rest solely on players and clubs after incidents occur.

“The current situation cannot be allowed to continue. It must be confronted, challenged, and eradicated—not tomorrow, but now,” the statement concluded, urging urgent action across football and social media platforms.
