The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 46-year-old Jude Onouha, alleged kingpin of a “vicious and notorious” criminal syndicate that disguised as security operatives to hijack luxury cars from unsuspecting victims.

Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Babaseyi Oluseyi, who issued a statement on behalf of Commissioner of Police CP Olohundare Jimoh, said the suspect’s gang specialized in wearing fake uniforms and using a modified Mercedes-Benz car jack crafted to resemble a firearm to deceive estate security personnel and gain entry into residential estates across Lagos.

“Under the false pretense of conducting security investigations, they gained access to several residential estates. Once inside, the gang targeted high-end vehicles such as Toyota Hilux, Toyota Highlander, Lexus 650, Mercedes-Benz, and other SUVs, systematically vandalising them and removing vital and expensive components, including brainboxes, tapping glasses, wiring systems, side mirrors, and control devices,” the statement read.

Recovered items include the modified Mercedes car jack and a face cap with the inscription ‘Special Force,’ which Onouha allegedly used to disguise himself as a security operative.

The suspect reportedly confessed to the crimes and is assisting detectives in tracking down other gang members.

The Command urged estate managers and security guards to exercise vigilance and caution whenever anyone presents themselves as security operatives seeking entry into their premises.

Residents were advised to:

  • Contact their Divisional Police Officer (DPO) to verify any such individuals.

  • Immediately refer suspicious persons to the nearest police division.

Commissioner of Police Jimoh also urged residents to make use of the Command’s emergency numbers (08063299264, 09053872208, 08087332678) for quick intervention, stressing that cooperation, vigilance, and timely reporting are vital in safeguarding communities across Lagos.
