Three party guests and a motor boy were electrocuted during a chieftaincy celebration in Idimu, Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State.

The motor boy, whose identity has not yet been confirmed, reportedly died on the spot.

An eyewitness, Femi Ajiboye, told newsmen during a visit to the community on Wednesday, November 19, that a resident who had recently received a chieftaincy title organized a celebratory party on Anjorin Street on November 11.

While the festivities were underway, a truck attempting to drive through the street was obstructed by one of the canopies mounted for the event. Several guests, assisted by an occupant of the truck, tried to lift the canopy to allow the vehicle to pass.

In the process of moving the canopy to one side of the road, its metal frame accidentally made contact with an exposed electrical wire, instantly electrocuting those holding it.

“The coronation anniversary lasted a week, and during the event, a resident was honoured with a chieftaincy title. While he was hosting a separate celebration, a sand-filled truck tried to access a new estate at the end of the street but was blocked by one of the canopies,” Ajiboye explained.

“Some of the guests and a truck occupant attempted to lift the canopy off the road, unaware that a naked wire was lying nearby. As they raised the canopy, its iron frame touched the live wire, and they were electrocuted.”
