The Kwara State Government has ordered the immediate closure of schools in four local government areas following escalating security concerns in parts of the state.

The directive was confirmed on Wednesday by the Kwara State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT).

In a circular obtained by Channels Television, NUT Chairman Yusuf Agboola announced that all schools in Isin, Irepodun, Ifelodun, and Ekiti LGAs must shut down with immediate effect, in line with instructions from the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development.

Agboola explained that the decision was prompted by renewed security threats in Kwara South, adding that the temporary closure was a precautionary measure to protect students, teachers, and school administrators.

“Comrade chairmen, please inform all schools in the mentioned local governments to close with immediate effect until further notice. This action is due to prevailing security challenges and the government’s efforts to manage the situation. Treat this notice with urgency as it comes directly from the ministry,” the circular stated.

He added that school heads and teachers would be informed of further developments as the situation evolves.
