A former Head of the Mass Communication Department at Abdu Gusau Polytechnic, Malam Aliyu Damri, and his son, Ahmad, have been released from captivity after spending a month in the hands of bandits.
The duo was kidnapped alongside six others on January 23, 2025, when armed assailants stormed Bakura town, the headquarters of Bakura Local Government Area in Zamfara State. The attack, which occurred around 2:00 a.m., saw the gunmen firing indiscriminately before conducting a house-to-house raid. In addition to abducting victims, the attackers looted livestock, including goats, sheep, and cows.
Family members and colleagues confirmed on Thursday, February 20, that Damri and his son had regained their freedom. However, they did not disclose the status of the other abducted individuals.
The incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in Zamfara State, where banditry and kidnappings remain a major concern for residents.
