Voting commenced as scheduled on Saturday at Polling Unit 18, Post Office, in the Abuja Municipal Area Council, with residents turning out to participate in the Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections.

Our correspondent reports that the exercise began shortly after electoral officials completed the pasting of the voter register, while party agents concluded verification of details on the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).

The process was observed to be orderly and hitch-free, as BVAS machines functioned effectively and eligible voters were accredited without difficulty.

An electoral official at the polling unit said preparations were concluded early to ensure a seamless exercise. “We started on time after pasting the register and confirming details with party agents. So far, the process has been smooth,” the official said.

Voters also expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise. “The accreditation was fast and there were no issues with the machines,” a voter, who spoke shortly after casting his ballot, noted.

Security personnel were visibly present to maintain order and safeguard electoral materials. Officers from the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Nigeria Correctional Service were deployed to the area to ensure a peaceful voting environment.

As of the time of filing this report, voting continued calmly, with security agencies and election officials coordinating to ensure the smooth conduct of the poll.
