The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, has announced the passing of Elder Samuel Ayanlola Oyekunle, father of its Secretary, Comrade Jide Oyekunle.
Elder Oyekunle passed away in the early hours of Thursday, March 20, 2025, in Ibadan after a brief illness. He was 76 years old and hailed from Ilua Community, Okeho Local Government Area of Oyo State.
A respected community leader and a stalwart in the photography profession, the late Elder Oyekunle was the former Chairman of the Nigeria Professional Photographer Association (NPPA), Iseyin Branch. His dedication to societal development, integrity, and mentorship left an enduring impact on those who crossed his path.
Beyond his professional achievements, he was a guiding force in Ilua Community and Iseyin Local Government, playing a pivotal role in fostering unity and progress. His unwavering commitment to service and humanity earned him a place in the hearts of many, making him a reference point in history.
The NUJ extends its heartfelt condolences to Comrade Jide Oyekunle, his family, and all who mourn this great loss. The Union acknowledges the immense legacy of the late Elder and encourages the bereaved family to find comfort in the lasting memories of his remarkable life.
Survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren, Elder Oyekunle’s funeral arrangements will be announced by the family in due course.
