The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a fresh three-day weather forecast, warning of widespread thunderstorms and varying intensities of rainfall across the country from Monday, July 21 to Wednesday, July 23, 2025.
The forecast, released on NiMet’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Sunday, covers the Northern, Central, and Southern regions, with expected weather conditions including moderate to heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds.
According to the update, early morning thunderstorms and rains on Monday are likely in parts of Taraba, Adamawa, Kebbi, Borno, Yobe, Gombe, Bauchi, Sokoto, and Kaduna.
For the Central region, NiMet predicts cloudy morning skies, with increased chances of thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening across Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kogi, and Benue.
By Tuesday, cloudy conditions will persist in the morning, while moderate rainfall is expected in the afternoon across the FCT, Kwara, Plateau, and Niger.
On Wednesday, thunderstorms and rain are forecast to hit Katsina, Kano, Bauchi, Sokoto, and Taraba in the morning, followed by storms across Yobe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Borno, and Kebbi later in the day.
Southern Region to Experience Sustained Rainfall
In the Southern states, residents should prepare for consistent rainfall over the next three days. Monday and Tuesday mornings will begin with light showers in Enugu, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom, followed by moderate to heavy rainfall across Ebonyi, Abia, Edo, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom.
NiMet specifically highlighted the likelihood of strong winds accompanying the rains, especially in areas prone to thunderstorms. The agency has urged the public to take precautionary measures, including:
Securing loose outdoor objects
Avoiding driving during heavy rainfall
Disconnecting electrical appliances during storms
Staying away from tall trees and unstable structures
Aviation and Public Safety Advisory
NiMet also advised airline operators to obtain detailed, airport-specific weather briefings for safe flight planning. Citizens are encouraged to monitor updates via the agency’s official platforms and its website: www.nimet.gov.ng.
As weather patterns intensify during this forecast period, NiMet’s alert serves as a crucial reminder for Nigerians to stay prepared, stay safe, and stay informed.
