The Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (KSPHCMB) has begun the distribution of free Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health (MNCH) commodities to 106 Primary Health Care Centres (PHCs) across the state, in line with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s drive to expand access to quality healthcare for women and children.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, the Director General of KSPHCMB, Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim, said the intervention is aimed at reducing preventable maternal and child deaths by strengthening primary healthcare delivery across Kano.

He urged Zonal Directors and Heads of Departments to uphold transparency and accountability throughout the exercise, warning against diversion or misuse of the commodities. According to him, the Board will monitor the distribution process to ensure the items reach their intended beneficiaries.

Professor Salisu commended Governor Yusuf for prioritizing maternal and child health in line with his campaign promises, while also appreciating the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Labaran Abubakar Yusuf, for his leadership and continued support in reforming the health sector.

The Director of Pharmacy, Pharmacist Abdullahi Abubakar Danzabuwa, assured that the commodities being distributed meet international standards and will be delivered according to global best practices in pharmaceutical supply and management.

KSPHCMB emphasized that the intervention is part of its broader commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and removing financial barriers that hinder access to essential healthcare. The Board expressed confidence that the initiative will significantly improve maternal and child health outcomes, further consolidating Kano’s position as a leading state in primary healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
