The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu, has launched an operational tour and assessment of the Police Area Commands as part of ongoing security preparations for the upcoming gubernatorial election in the state.
A statement by Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga says the exercise which commenced with a visit to the Onitsha Area Command, saw the Commissioner of Police leading the high-visibility patrols through major routes and strategic locations within the area.
The Commissioner of Police also addressed officers and men, emphasizing the need for professionalism, neutrality, and strict adherence to the rule of law during election duties.
Mr Orutugu charged the officers to remain disciplined and committed to upholding the integrity of the Nigeria Police Force, reiterating that the Command is fully determined to provide a safe and secure environment before, during and after the election.
During the patrol, the Police Commissioner inspected operational formations, Police posts, and checkpoints to ensure that the deployed officers were alert and properly equipped.
He commended the cooperation of sister security agencies as well as other security stakeholders in the area for their synergy and support to the Police always.
Orutugu further urged residents to remain law-abiding and to report all suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
