Pop superstar Davido has shown his passion for football ahead of AFCON 2025 by betting $25,000 (about ₦36 million) on Nigeria’s opening Group C match against Tanzania.
The singer shared a snapshot of his betting slip on his X page on Sunday, revealing that he wagered on both teams to score, with a potential payout of $96,564 (around ₦140 million).
This isn’t Davido’s first big bet on the Super Eagles. Ahead of Nigeria’s last competitive match against Gabon in the 2026 FIFA World Cup play-offs, he staked $10,000 (₦15 million) predicting a Nigerian win and both teams to score, with a potential payout of $50,194.58 (₦75.2 million).
While Nigeria lost that match, Davido’s enthusiasm for backing the national team remains unwavering.
Nigeria, three-time AFCON champions, will face Tanzania’s Taifa Stars at the Complex Sportif de Fes in Morocco on Tuesday, December 23, kicking off their quest for a fourth continental title. The Eagles enter the match as favourites, having finished as runners-up in the previous edition.
Recent setbacks, including failing to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, have tempered expectations, but the statistics are firmly in Nigeria’s favour.
The Super Eagles are ranked 38th in the world, compared to Tanzania’s 112th, and the Taifa Stars have never beaten Nigeria in a competitive fixture.
With fans and celebrities like Davido rallying behind the team, all eyes will be on Fez as Nigeria aims to make a strong start in AFCON 2025.
