The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has officially announced nominations for the 98th Academy Awards, with Ryan Coogler’s vampire horror epic Sinners making history after securing a record-breaking 16 nominations.
The feat sets a new benchmark for the most nominations received by a single film, surpassing previous record holders All About Eve (1950), Titanic (1997) and La La Land (2016), which each earned 14 nods.
Sinners received nominations in major categories including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Original Screenplay, cementing its status as the year’s most dominant Oscar contender.
Reacting to the milestone, Coogler said the recognition was “overwhelming and deeply humbling.”
“This film came from a place of risk and imagination,” Coogler said. “To see the Academy embrace it in this way is beyond anything we hoped for.”
Trailing closely behind is One Battle After Another, which earned 13 nominations, while Marty Supreme, Frankenstein and Sentimental Value followed with nine nominations each. Hamnet secured eight nods across multiple categories.
The ceremony will be hosted by American comedian Conan O’Brien, who expressed excitement about leading Hollywood’s biggest night.
“The Oscars celebrate
The best of storytelling,” O’Brien said. “I’m honored to be part of a year that clearly pushed creative boundarie.
