The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has recorded its first polling unit victory in the ongoing Area Council Elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The opposition party secured the win at Polling Unit 076, Sani Abacha Estate, Wuse Zone 4, where Dr. Moses Paul, the ADC candidate for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), voted.

Out of 10 ballots cast at the unit amid low voter turnout, the ADC polled seven votes, while the APC garnered two votes. One ballot was declared invalid.

The election process witnessed generally low participation across parts of the FCT. Dr. Paul attributed the turnout to movement restrictions earlier announced by the FCT Minister, describing the directive as confusing and discouraging to voters. He alleged that the restriction significantly affected participation.

The AMAC candidate also raised concerns over alleged intimidation of ADC agents in areas such as Takum Shara and parts of Kabusa ward, including Dogongada and Shereti.

According to him, some party representatives were threatened, with warnings of violence allegedly aimed at suppressing voters and influencing the outcome in favour of the ruling party.

While commending electoral officials at his polling unit for professionalism and adherence to due process, Dr. Paul condemned alleged vote buying in parts of the capital, stating that such practices undermine democratic principles.

Despite the reported challenges, he expressed confidence in victory and urged residents to resist intimidation while demanding accountable leadership as results continue to emerge.
