NHRC INTRODUCES TOLL FREE CODE FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES REPORTING
The National Human Rights Commission has got a short code for Sexual and Gender Based Violence reporting.
The Executive Secretary of the commission, Mr. Tony Ojukwu stated this in Abuja at a multi-agency task team meeting on Sexual and Gender Based Violence register.
Mr. Ojukwu said the 6472 code was to make it easy for victims to access and report their ordeals as well as activate help.
Mr. Ojukwu encouraged the public to effectively utilize the code to expose the heinous crime of rape and other sexual abuses.
In a presentation by a Deputy Director in the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, Mr. Titus Amariju explained that out of the twenty-five states that have passed the VAPP act, seven states were so far onboard the Sexual Offender Register platform.
Mr. Amariju said Edo state had two hundred and two sexual offenders, Delta One hundred and five and Kano Thirty-eight.
A representative of the British Council’s Rule of Law and Anti-corruption programme, Mrs Uche Nwokedi said effective implementation of Violence against Persons Prohibition Act required multi-stakeholder approach.
