U.S. President Donald Trump intensified his criticism of Nigeria on Friday, November 21, describing the country as “a disgrace” while renewing allegations that the government has not done enough to protect Christian communities from extremist violence.

Speaking during an interview on a conservative radio programme, Trump reiterated earlier statements accusing Nigerian authorities of failing to curb attacks by militant groups.

He also repeated his earlier warning that the United States could consider military action against Islamist militants in Nigeria if the government did not “do more” to address the situation.

“Nigeria is a disgrace. The whole thing is a disgrace,” Trump said during the broadcast. “People are being killed by the thousands. It’s a genocide, and I’m very angry about it. And we give a lot of subsidies to Nigeria — we may have to stop.”

Trump’s remarks have drawn attention once again to the ongoing security challenges in parts of Nigeria, where attacks on rural communities, including Christian populations, have raised international concern.
