Osun LG Elections: PDP Wins All 30 Chairmanship, Councillorship Seats

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has secured a landslide victory, winning all 30 local government chairmanship and councillorship seats in Osun State during the local government elections held on February 22, 2025.

Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), Hashim Abioye, officially announced the results on Saturday.

The election proceeded despite strong opposition from the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Lateef Fagbemi, and the Nigeria Police, who had both urged its suspension.

The AGF cited a February 10 ruling by the Court of Appeal, Akure Division, which nullified an earlier Federal High Court judgment that had removed All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmen from office in 2022. According to Fagbemi, the appellate court’s decision effectively reinstated the sacked APC chairmen.

Additionally, the police justified their call for suspension based on intelligence reports warning of potential security threats during the elections.

Despite these concerns, the OSSIEC proceeded with the polls, delivering a clean sweep for the PDP across all LGAs in the state.
