The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old man, Alabi Anthony, over the alleged rape and murder of a woman identified as Olaseni Veronica in Iboropa community, Akoko North-East Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the development in a statement, revealing that the suspect was apprehended through intelligence-led efforts.
According to him, investigators tracked the victim’s missing mobile phone, which ultimately led to the arrest of the suspect.
“The suspect admitted to raping the victim and subsequently strangling her,” Jimoh disclosed.
The police spokesperson condemned the incident, describing it as “heinous and inhumane,” while assuring the public that justice would be pursued.
“We are committed to ensuring that justice is served and that the perpetrator faces the full weight of the law,” he added.
Jimoh further stated that the case has been transferred to the state police headquarters in Akure for further investigation and prosecution.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
