Undisputed boxing champion Claressa Shields has revealed one of the strict routines she follows before a major fight by abstaining from sex for six weeks.
Speaking on the Club Shay Shay podcast, Shields mentioned, “I don’t know what other women do, but I stay away from s+x six weeks before the fight.”
She explained that the discipline helps her stay focused and physically sharp. “For me, it makes me feel relaxed and calm. You’ve got to be able to run, and it really does take something out of your legs,” she said.
Shields added that the practice not only boosts her performance but may also intensify her competitive edge. “Maybe that’s why I’m so mean and angry. I feel a lot stronger when I’m not doing it,” she remarked.
Widely considered the greatest female boxer of all time, Shields continues to offer rare insights into the mental and physical preparation behind her dominance in the sport.
