The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, has stated that he has no intention of marrying more than one wife, stressing that peace, stability, and balance within his household remain his top priorities.

The monarch, who married Ivie Atuwatse in 2014 and has three children, made the declaration during an interview aired on BBC Pidgin and shared on social media on Friday.

He explained that his decision is rooted in his desire to preserve harmony in his home, despite cultural expectations that traditional rulers often practice polygamy.

According to Ogiame Atuwatse III, his lifestyle already requires careful balance between royal responsibilities and family life.

He noted that whenever he is not attending official engagements, he prefers to spend his time at home with his wife and children.

The traditional ruler said dividing his attention among multiple households would affect the quality of time, care, and attention he gives to his family.

He added that his position as king involves constant meetings, phone calls, and interactions with government officials, leaving little personal time.

He further explained that moments of rest and relaxation with his family are precious, adding that he does not consider himself suited for a polygamous lifestyle.

The Olu of Warri concluded that he is comfortable with monogamy and believes it allows him to function better both as a leader and as a family man.
