Paris Saint-Germain defender and Morocco national team captain Achraf Hakimi is set to face trial in France over an allegation of rape, French media have reported.
Multiple outlets, including France 24, said judicial sources and Hakimi’s legal team confirmed that an investigating judge has ordered the case to proceed to trial, effectively bringing the investigative phase to an end.
The case originates from a complaint filed by a woman who was 24 at the time, alleging that she was raped at Hakimi’s residence in Boulogne-Billancourt, a suburb near Paris. According to prosecutors, the woman claimed the incident occurred after she met the footballer on social media and later visited his home late at night.
Five days after the complaint was lodged, Hakimi—then 24 and playing club football in Europe—was formally indicted. Prosecutors in Nanterre subsequently requested that the matter be referred to a criminal court, a move now confirmed by the investigating judge’s decision.
Hakimi, now 27, has consistently denied the allegation, insisting the encounter was consensual. Reacting to the decision to proceed to trial, the defender reiterated his innocence in a statement posted on X.
“Today, a rape accusation is enough to justify a trial, even though I deny it and everything proves it’s false,” Hakimi wrote.
“This is as unjust to the innocent as it is to the genuine victims. I calmly await this trial, which will allow the truth to come out publicly.”
As of the time of filing this report, French judicial authorities have not announced a trial date.
