CSOs To Parties: Cost Of Nomination Forms, A Concern

A Coalition of Civil Society Organization For Good Governance, says women and Youths are worst hit in the decision of political parties to increase the cost of nomination forms.

The Convener of the Group, Comrade Okpanachi Jacob stated this while addressing Newsmen in Abuja, on the endorsement of some Aspirants who according to the Group have all it takes to provide quality leadership if elected.

Recall that the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC recently announced that the cost of nomination form for those aspiring for the presidential position is one hundred million Naira.

According to the party, fifty million Naira is the cost of nomination form for governorship, while twenty Million Naira is for the Senate and House of Representatives, ten million Naira.

Comrade Jacob said that the economic situation of the country was not conducive enough to enable youths generate such amount.

He explained that although women were asked to pay for only expression of interest form which in the case of the APC for Presidential, thirty Million Naira, the amount was still high.

He stressed that most women do not posses such financial capability.

Comrade Jacob therefore urged the political parties to reduce the costs and provide such forms to women and those living with disability at no cost.
