The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has formally petitioned the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), calling for disciplinary action against Justices Binta Nyako, Haruna Tsammani, and Garba Lawal over what he described as “gross judicial misconduct.”

In his petition, Kanu accused the judges of violating judicial ethics in cases involving him and urged the NBA, currently holding its annual conference in Enugu, to investigate the allegations and impose appropriate sanctions.

He further urged the association to publicly denounce the misuse of civil procedures in criminal matters and to condemn the application of repealed laws, stressing that such practices erode public trust in Nigeria’s legal system.

“No Nigerian should be detained through abduction or tried under repealed laws,” Kanu said, insisting that the alleged infractions by the judges have left “an un-erasable blot on Nigeria’s legal conscience.”

The IPOB leader, who was forcefully extradited from Kenya in June 2021, has remained in custody at the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters in Abuja, where he continues to face trial.
