The Lagos State House of Assembly has expressed grief over the passing of Samuel Aina, a prominent political leader and former chairman of Oshodi/Isolo Local Government.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Security and Strategy, Hon. Stephen Ogundipe, announced the development at plenary, describing Aina’s contributions as impactful and enduring.
Ogundipe recalled that Aina, who served as council chairman from 1999 to 2003, was responsible for the construction of the current local government secretariat building, a landmark achievement that still benefits the community today.
Also speaking, the lawmaker representing Oshodi/Isolo Constituency II, Hon. Ajomale Oladipo, described the late politician as “a leader worthy of emulation and a man of impeccable character.”
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, paid tribute to Aina’s legacy, noting that his influence extended beyond politics.
“He was a father figure whose legacy remains unmatched. His impact will continue to be felt in Oshodi/Isolo and across Lagos State,” Obasa said.
The Speaker thereafter directed the Clerk of the House, Olalekan Onafeko, to issue an official letter of condolence to Aina’s family.
In a related remark, Obasa cautioned political stakeholders in Lagos to prioritise their personal health while discharging their duties, referencing the recent deaths of some newly elected councillors in the state.
“Politics should never come at the expense of one’s wellbeing. Leaders must take care of their health so they can continue to serve the people effectively,” Obasa urged.
The House observed a moment of silence in honour of the late Aina.
