The Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Said Ahmad, has praised the National Library of Nigeria as an essential pillar of the country’s intellectual infrastructure, describing it as the “apex repository of knowledge” and a guardian of Nigeria’s educational heritage.
Ahmad made this statement via her official X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday after attending a press briefing for the National Library alongside First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
Ahmad, reflecting on her personal and professional background, stated that as both an educationist and the daughter of one, she was deeply inspired by Senator Tinubu’s commitment to education, women’s empowerment, and the revival of reading culture across Nigeria.
“The First Lady dedicating her birthday to the National Library has reminded us of the irreplaceable role this institution plays… as a hub for research, learning, and culture,” Ahmad wrote.
She described the First Lady as a shining role model for Nigerian women and future generations, commending her efforts to expand access to education, improve literacy, and strengthen schools.
As part of her 65th birthday celebrations on September 21, 2025, Senator Oluremi Tinubu launched the “Oluremi at 65 Education Fund,” calling on well-wishers to convert their birthday greetings into donations toward the completion of the National Library of Nigeria.
“The completion of the National Library will be a great birthday gift for me,” she said, emphasizing that she chose to dedicate the milestone celebration to God and to a cause close to her heart instead of hosting a lavish party.
The appeal has so far raised over ₦20.45 billion, according to recent updates, and is being coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Education.
Ahmad underscored the Library’s unique role in preserving Nigeria’s intellectual history, promoting research, and restoring the country’s dwindling reading culture.
“May God bless you abundantly and grant the successful completion of this landmark project for the benefit of all Nigerians,” she said in her birthday message to the First Lady.
