President Bola Tinubu has held his first official meeting with the newly appointed service chiefs at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, just hours after announcing sweeping changes in the nation’s military leadership.
In the new appointments, General Olufemi Oluyede was retained but redeployed from Chief of Army Staff to Chief of Defence Staff. Major-General W. Shaibu now assumes the role of Chief of Army Staff, while Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke and Rear Admiral I. Abbas take charge as Chiefs of Air Staff and Naval Staff, respectively.
During the closed-door meeting, President Tinubu urged the new military leaders to justify the confidence reposed in them by upholding professionalism, vigilance, and unity in their command.
He called for stronger inter-service cooperation and continuity in ongoing operations to effectively address Nigeria’s complex security challenges.
The president also stressed the need for unwavering loyalty to the constitution and a renewed dedication to safeguarding lives and property across the country.
