2023: Stakeholders Advocate Stiffer Penalties For Electoral Offenders

The Director General, Nigeria Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, Abuja. Professor Mohammed Tawfiq Ladan has advocated stiffer penalties for electoral offenders to curtail the alarming rate of electoral crimes in the country.

Professor Ladan stated this at the public lecture and award ceremony of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, FRCN Headquarters Chapel 2022 Press Week In Abuja.

The theme of the lecture was “2023 Elections: “The Role of Stakeholders in Ensuring Credible and Hitch Free Exercise”

the event which brought together major stakeholders from both Public and private sectors, staff and management of the federal radio corporation of Nigeria FRCN, civil society organizations as well Youths Corp members to discussed on a way to ensure that country had a peaceful, credible and fair, elections comes February, March poll.

Professor Mohammed Tawfiq Ladan who spoke on various issues concerning electoral process ranging from Security, votes buying, electoral manipulation, role of media in an elections descried the cases of violence in the nation’s electoral process as worrisome and emphasised the need for prompt interventions to prosecute and punish offenders as deterants to others.

The Chief Host and the Director General federal radio corporation of Nigeria, FRCN , Dr. Mansur liman represented by the Director News FRCN, Mrs.Hussaina Akila noted that: “The Nigerian media as the fourth estate of the team has a rich track record of rooting for public welfare hence the need to imbibe ethics of their profession especially as the nation’s general elections draw nearer.

The Host and the Chairperson NUJ FRCN headquarters Chapel , Comrade Sandra Udeike said the event has brought to an end of the activities lined up for the NUJ FRCN 2022 press week.

Comrade Udeike called on her colleagues to provide accountability, objectivity and impartiality when they carry out their tasks during the general elections.

The Chairman planning committee of the event, Comrade Terseer Nnzuuulgha and the FRCN HQ Corporative, Comrade Victorson Agbenson while commended the NUJ FRCN Excited for the initiative encouraged it’s members to always participates in all the activities of the union.

The highpoints of the event was presentation of the award to some members of the union for their contributions to the growth and development of Radio Nigeria.

Editor of the year award goes to Biodun Dare , Commentary writer of the year was Nehemiah Anini, while program producer of the year goes to Luckey Omonua , Also Daniel Adejor was the content editor of the year, Phineas Udueoye and Amah Ignis go home with Studio manager of the year and as well as sport reporter of the year respectively.
