The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has ordered the closure of all public senior secondary schools in Abuja by Friday, November 28, citing urgent security concerns.

Director of School Services at the FCT Secondary Education Board, Aishatu Alhassan, gave the directive in a memo released on Tuesday.

The memo instructed school principals and heads to immediately end all academic activities and ensure that students are safely dismissed in an orderly manner.

Schools are also required to notify students, staff, and parents of the closure, adjust any scheduled academic activities, and resume classes on the next official school day unless further instructions are issued. The FCTA described the directive as “important and urgent.”

The closure comes amid a spate of recent abductions across Nigeria. On November 12, 25 female students were kidnapped from Government Girls Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State.

Earlier, 315 people, including 303 students and 12 teachers were abducted from St. Mary’s School in Papiri, Niger State.

Other incidents include the abduction and subsequent release of 38 worshippers from Christ Apostolic Church in Oke Isegun, Kwara State, and the kidnapping of at least 11 residents in Isapa, Kwara State, on Monday evening.

The FCTA emphasized that the safety of students remains a top priority as security agencies continue to address the rising threats in the region.
