A major security operation on Tuesday saw a joint task force comprising the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the Military, and the Nigeria Police intercepting and turning back a convoy of about 550 people traveling from Yobe to Taraba State.

The interception occurred at the Numan Bridge Joint Task checkpoint around 2:00 p.m. on November 25, 2025.

According to a statement from the NIS Adamawa State Command, the large group, made up of men, women, and children, was transported in two trailers bearing registration numbers NNY 236 XA (Yobe) and GAS 330 XA (Taraba).

During routine security profiling, the individuals were unable to provide any credible reason for their mass movement.

Given the heightened security situation nationwide, the NIS said the “undocumented large-scale movement raised serious security concerns.”

A preliminary investigation by the joint task force concluded that allowing the convoy to continue posed significant security risks. The 550 travelers were therefore not permitted to proceed and were instead escorted back to the Adamawa–Gombe boundary.

Officials confirmed that the group had been handed over to the appropriate authorities with instructions for them to return to Yobe State pending further clarification from Yobe State officials.

The NIS Adamawa Command reaffirmed its commitment to intelligence-led operations, proactive security measures, and inter-agency collaboration to safeguard the region.

Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to security agencies.
