Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on Nigerians to take collective responsibility for protecting the environment, urging citizens to adopt clean energy practices and sustainable living as a pathway to a healthier nation.

Tinubu made the appeal in Abuja while commemorating the International Day of Clean Energy, observed under the theme “Clean Energy for People and Planet.”

In her message, the First Lady described the occasion as a reminder of Nigerians’ shared duty to safeguard the environment for present and future generations.

“I urge us all to embrace renewable energy and sustainable technologies as an essential foundation for survival, healthy living, and environmental stewardship,” Tinubu said.

She stressed that environmental protection should not be left to government alone but must become a societal responsibility embraced by individuals, communities, and institutions.

“Let us work together to build a greener, healthier planet for all,” she added.

The First Lady also extended goodwill to Nigerians as the country joins the global community to mark the day, wishing citizens a happy International Day of Clean Energy.

The International Day of Clean Energy was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly through Resolution A/77/327 and is observed annually to promote awareness and action toward a just and inclusive transition to renewable energy.

The global observance aims to mobilise governments, organisations, and individuals to accelerate the shift to clean energy solutions that benefit both people and the planet, while addressing climate change and environmental degradation.
