Nigerian comedian, Seyi Law, has issued a public apology following widespread backlash over his recent comments suggesting that Nigeria is safer today than it was a decade ago.

In a video shared online, the comedian addressed criticism stemming from remarks he made on The Honest Bunch podcast.

During the discussion, he questioned whether kidnappings were a recent development and implied that the country’s security situation had improved compared to 10 years ago.

Responding to the outrage that followed, Seyi Law acknowledged that his comments were insensitive—particularly to families who have lost loved ones or individuals directly affected by kidnapping and insecurity.

“I’m not someone who is too proud to apologise when I make a mistake,” he stated, emphasizing that he has a track record of publicly correcting himself. He recalled a previous episode of the same podcast where he immediately apologised after incorrectly stating the political party affiliation of Abia State Governor, Alex Otti.

The comedian clarified that he never intended to downplay the suffering of victims. However, he admitted that he now understands how his remarks could have appeared dismissive. He expressed deep regret and offered a sincere apology to anyone hurt by his statement.

Seyi Law concluded by pledging to continue engaging with government authorities to advocate for improved security, while reiterating his heartfelt apology to those offended by his earlier comments.
