The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced that beginning September 29, 2025, all payments at its revenue collection points across Nigerian airports will become fully electronic, in a bold move to promote digital transformation, efficiency, and transparency in airport operations.
In a statement released Friday, FAAN confirmed that the “Operation Go Cashless” initiative will apply to Airport access gates, Car parks and VIP and protocol lounges
FAAN stated that the rollout will begin at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos; and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
FAAN Partners Paystack for Seamless Digital Experience
FAAN said the project is being implemented in partnership with Paystack, a leading payment technology company, to offer a contactless payment system that is faster, more secure, and in line with global best practices.
“FAAN is proud to announce the roll-out of Operation Go Cashless, a contactless payment solution across all airports beginning with Lagos and Abuja,” the statement read.
Passengers will be able to obtain a FAAN Go Cashless Card at access gates in the two launch locations, with more airports to follow in later phases.
Cash Payments to Be Phased Out Gradually
The agency confirmed that cash transactions will be phased out at designated revenue points, and users are encouraged to adopt the new digital system. FAAN emphasized that the transition is intended to reduce delays, eliminate cash handling risks, and increase accountability across airport operations.
FAAN added that this approach is part of its ongoing modernization drive and commitment to aligning Nigerian airports with international aviation standards.
