Ruben Amorim admits he is still unsure what to expect from his inconsistent Manchester United side, ahead of Saturday’s crucial Premier League clash against Brentford in London.
The Portuguese manager, under pressure following a turbulent 10-month tenure at Old Trafford, stressed the need for urgency and momentum as United aim for back-to-back league victories for the first time this season.
United are currently 11th in the Premier League table, having secured a narrow 2-1 home win over Chelsea last week that briefly lifted spirits among fans and eased the scrutiny on Amorim.
“Every Game Is the Last One” – Amorim
Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday, Amorim said the team’s unpredictability remains a concern.
“It’s really important for us to have that sense of urgency that we need to win, no matter what,” he said.
“To be completely honest, I have an idea [about how we will perform], but I don’t know how it’s going to be – and I’m the manager of the team.”
Amorim acknowledged that months of inconsistent performances have left fans frustrated and unsure what to expect on matchdays.
“It’s normal the fans, they don’t know what is going to happen the next game… The best way of dealing with that is that every game is the last one. The next game is going to be the most important game for a long time for Manchester United.”
He urged his players to replicate the intensity shown in recent games against Chelsea, Burnley (3–2 win), and even in the season-opening 1–0 loss to Arsenal, where United impressed despite the result.
Mbeumo Making an Impact Since Brentford Move
Amorim also singled out new signing Bryan Mbeumo for praise, following his summer move from Brentford to Manchester United.
“He runs a lot, presses a lot, he is a different threat compared to last season. He’s not the loudest in the room, but you always feel his presence. I’m more than happy with Bryan,” Amorim said.
The Cameroonian forward, who joined in July, is already becoming a key figure for Amorim’s setup, adding both energy and versatility to the attack.
Amad Diallo to Miss Brentford Match
The United boss confirmed that Amad Diallo will be unavailable for Saturday’s game due to a family bereavement. The young winger has featured in five of United’s six matches this season and was beginning to establish himself as a regular.
“Our thoughts are with Amad and his family at this time,” Amorim added.
