Suspected terrorists have attacked Madagali, the hometown of Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, abducting six family members during a pre-dawn raid on Gare Village in Pallam District, Madagali Local Government Area.

The Adamawa State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued this morning by its spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje.

According to Nguroje, the attackers also rustled livestock before fleeing the community.

He said a joint rescue operation involving the police, military and local security volunteers has been launched to track down the perpetrators and secure the release of the victims.

“The Adamawa State Police Command has confirmed an attack on Gare Village, Pallam District, Madagali Local Government Area, in the early hours of today by suspected terrorists, which led to the abduction of six family members and the rustling of livestock,” Nguroje stated.

He explained that security agencies swiftly responded to the distress call.

“Upon receipt of the report, the Command immediately intensified collaboration and deployed additional personnel and operational assets in a joint operation involving the Nigeria Police Force, Troops of 144 Battalion, and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) to the affected area and surrounding communities,” he added.

The Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, Dankombo Morris, has ordered sustained search-and-rescue operations, reinforced patrols and an increased security presence across Madagali and neighbouring border communities.

Nguroje said the measures are aimed at ensuring the safe return of the abducted victims and preventing further attacks.

“The Command, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and other sister security agencies, remain fully committed to protecting lives and property across the state,” he said, assuring residents that updates would be provided as operations continue.

The attack comes amid heightened insecurity in parts of Adamawa State. Governor Fintiri recently commenced a tour of the state’s 21 local government areas to assess security challenges and other pressing concerns affecting residents.

Just days earlier, Hong Local Government Area was hit by a deadly attack that claimed 12 lives and left several houses destroyed.
Earlier this year, a communal clash between Bachama and Chobo communities in Lamurde Local Government Area reportedly resulted in over 20 deaths.

Residents have continued to call on the federal and state governments to strengthen security architecture across vulnerable communities to curb the rising spate of violence.
