Panic has gripped the Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi (JOSTUM), following the abduction of female students on Tuesday night.

A mother of one of the victims, speaking to Radio Nigeria, revealed that no contact has been made by the kidnappers. Meanwhile, the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Isaac Itodo, confirmed the incident in an official statement, assuring that security agencies have been informed and are taking action.

In response to the security breach, the university administration has ordered all students to vacate the campus immediately.

Confirming the incident, Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Sewuese Anene, stated that only two students were abducted, contrary to earlier reports of four victims. She further assured that security operatives have been deployed to the area, and an investigation is underway to apprehend the perpetrators.

The incident adds to growing concerns over campus security in Nigeria, as authorities intensify efforts to ensure the safe return of the abducted students.
