Former President Goodluck Jonathan has returned safely to Nigeria after being caught in the midst of the military coup in Guinea-Bissau.

Jonathan, who led the West African Elders Forum Election Observation Mission, had been in Guinea-Bissau to monitor last Sunday’s presidential and legislative elections when the military declared it had seized power.

Authorities confirmed that he is unharmed and back home.
