The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olukayode Egbetokun, has addressed public concerns regarding the absence of arrests during the recent rescue of abducted victims in Kwara State.
Speaking to journalists, the IGP stressed that the primary objective in any kidnapping response is the safe recovery of victims, not the immediate pursuit of suspects.
“When individuals are abducted and taken into captivity, our first concern is their rescue and safe return to their families,” he said. “The Kwara incident is not the first of its kind. Whenever we secure the victims, our immediate assignment is to reunite them with their families before considering any further action.”
Egbetokun explained that while investigations and subsequent operations are essential, they must not compromise the safety of those in captivity. He declined to comment extensively on operational details but assured Nigerians that the Police remain fully committed to prioritizing the preservation of lives.
He added that once victims are safely rescued, the Nigeria Police Force then intensifies efforts to track, identify, and apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the abduction.
