FCT Education Secretariat Boosts Vocational Training at National Sewing Championship

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Education Secretariat has reiterated its commitment to vocational training and entrepreneurship development at the launch of the 3rd Edition of the National Sewing Championship.

Speaking at the event, Permanent Secretary of the FCT Education Secretariat, Mrs. Joy Okeke, commended the “Skill Up Nigeria” vocational skills competition, highlighting the unwavering support of FCT Minister, Bar Nyesom Ezenwo Wike (CON) for vocational education initiatives. She emphasized his dedication to youth empowerment through practical and entrepreneurial skills.

Okeke also acknowledged the contributions of stakeholders in advancing skills development, fostering innovation, and promoting self-reliance among young people. She applauded contestants for showcasing their creativity and technical skills, while praising the competition’s organizers for providing a platform that nurtures aspiring entrepreneurs in Nigeria’s fashion industry.

Driving Economic Growth Through Vocational Training
In her address, Dr. Favour Edem-Nse, Director of the Department of Mass Education, commended the competition’s sponsors for sustaining a platform that promotes creativity, innovation, and skill acquisition in the sewing industry. She emphasized the critical role vocational training plays in driving economic growth, job creation, and revenue generation.

She further highlighted that the FCT Education Secretariat, through its departments of Mass Education and Science, Technology, and Innovation, remains committed to supporting the initiative with technical expertise and strategic partnerships.

Expanding Vocational Opportunities Across the FCT
Echoing similar sentiments, Mr. Kolawole Olobashola, Director of the FCT Department of Science, Technology, and Innovation, underscored the competition’s significance in fostering entrepreneurship and nurturing young talent. He revealed that the FCT Administration is working towards establishing Vocational Knowledge Centers in all six area councils to further promote technical education and skills acquisition.

The 2025 edition of the Ladi Memorial Foundation National Sewing Competition features both Junior and Youth categories and has gained prominence as a key platform for skill development and economic empowerment. With continued backing from government agencies and private organizations, the initiative is set to play a pivotal role in shaping Nigeria’s future entrepreneurs.
