The Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja has ruled that all members of the Lagos State House of Assembly must be joined as parties in the lawsuit filed by former Speaker, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, challenging his removal.
Presiding over the case, Justice Yetunde Pinheiro adjourned the hearing of all pending applications to March 7, 2025.
Hon. Obasa, who was ousted from his position by 36 lawmakers on January 13, 2025, filed the suit through his legal counsel, Chief Afolabi Fashanu (SAN), on February 12. The former Speaker contends that his removal occurred while he was outside the country.
The legal battle has drawn top legal minds, with Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Tayo Oyetibo leading the team representing Hon. Mojisola Meranda. Femi Falana (SAN) and Muiz Banire (SAN) are representing the 36 lawmakers, while Senior Advocates Olu Daramola and Dada Awosika are advocating for other interested parties seeking to join the case.
The court’s decision to include all lawmakers as respondents adds a new dimension to the unfolding legal drama, with the next hearing set for March 7.
