Paris Saint-Germain’s upcoming Ligue 1 fixture against FC Nantes has been postponed to allow the French champions additional recovery time ahead of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 clash with Chelsea.
The match was originally scheduled for the weekend of March 13–15, falling between PSG’s first leg against Chelsea on March 11 and the return leg at Stamford Bridge on March 17.
Chelsea, managed by Liam Rosenior, are also set to face Newcastle United in a demanding Premier League encounter just three days before the decisive second leg.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) confirmed the decision.
“At the request of Paris Saint-Germain, in order to best prepare for their two-legged tie against Chelsea, the LFP board of directors, in agreement with Nantes, have decided the Paris Saint-Germain–Nantes match will be played during the week of April 20,” the statement read. “The exact date and time will be confirmed later.”
This is not the first time PSG have secured a domestic schedule adjustment for European commitments.
Last season, the club also had a Ligue 1 fixture postponed between the two legs of their Champions League quarter-final victory over Aston Villa.
