Authorities in Anambra State have taken into custody the General Overseer of Jesus Is Ontop Ministry, Amichi, Evangelist Dozie Ezani, over allegations of sexual abuse involving a 16-year-old girl.

Ezani is currently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka following his arrest by operatives of the Anambra State Special Anti-Touting Squad (SASA). The suspect was apprehended at his poultry farm in Igboukwu, Aguata Local Government Area, after intelligence-led surveillance of his activities.

SASA spokesperson Karen James told journalists on Friday that the alleged abuse reportedly occurred across multiple locations, including the pastor’s church, residence, and farm.

“A security personnel from Igboukwu reported the suspicious interactions between the pastor and the young girl. Following verification, SASA operatives moved in to ensure the safety of the victim,” James said.

She explained that the suspect was immediately transferred to SCID in Awka, where investigations are ongoing.

The victim, identified as Precious Okafor from Amichi, revealed that she had been brought from Lagos by her aunt to the pastor for what was described as “special deliverance.” She claimed that the abuse began shortly after her arrival and continued over several months.

“He repeatedly abused me in different locations. I am unsure about my medical condition now and have experienced health issues after taking substances he gave me,” Okafor said, appealing for medical and psychological support.

SASA confirmed that the victim is set to undergo a medical examination to assess her health and well-being. Efforts are also ongoing to locate her aunt, who is reportedly at large.

In a video interrogation, Ezani admitted to having sexual contact with the victim but attributed his actions to “the devil’s handiwork.” He reportedly offered to cover her medical expenses if released.

SASA Head Monday Nwokoye condemned the acts and urged community vigilance:

“The state frowns at such behavior. Perpetrators will be brought to justice. We encourage residents to report suspicious activities immediately.”

The Anambra State Police Command has yet to release an official statement. Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed he would verify details before commenting.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing, with authorities emphasizing the need for prompt reporting of suspected abuse to prevent further harm.
