In a landmark event dedicated to press freedom and ethical storytelling, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has honoured twelve exceptional journalists for their role in promoting peace, regional integration, and sustainable development across West Africa.
The awards ceremony, which aligned with the ECOWAS @ 50 celebrations and Vision 2050 roadmap, underscored the pivotal role of media in shaping a more inclusive and informed West African society.
Speaking during the event in The Gambia, H.E. Mrs Miatta Lily French, ECOWAS Resident Representative, lauded the awardees for their originality, boldness, and dedication to truth-telling. “Your voices reflect the aspirations of a region committed to unity and progress,” she said.
Representing the President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E. Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, the Director of Cabinet, Hon. Abdoul Kolley, reiterated the organisation’s unwavering commitment to empowering the media as a cornerstone of democratic governance and civic engagement.
The 2025 ECOWAS Media Awards spotlighted journalism not only as a watchdog but as a transformative force in West Africa’s journey toward cohesion and resilience.
