The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced that the Abuja-Kaduna train service will resume operations next week, following the successful completion of extensive repairs and safety checks on the railway track at Asham, the site of the recent disruption.

This comes after the temporary suspension of services due to the unfortunate incident on August 26, 2025, which prompted a full safety review of both infrastructure and equipment.

Safety First: Track Repairs and Passenger Refunds

In a statement released by Callistus Unyimadu, Chief Public Relations Officer of the NRC, the Corporation emphasized its commitment to passenger safety and global best practices.

“The Corporation has worked tirelessly to ensure that both the infrastructure and rolling stock are restored to the highest safety standards,” the statement read.

As part of its passenger care response, the NRC confirmed that 512 passengers out of the 583 on board the affected train have already been refunded, with ongoing efforts to reach and reimburse the remaining passengers.

Support and Assurance from NRC

The NRC expressed gratitude to passengers for their patience and understanding during the suspension period. It also acknowledged the vital support received from the Federal Ministry of Transportation, security agencies, the media, and other stakeholders in ensuring the safety and swift recovery of the rail service.

“The safety, comfort, and satisfaction of our passengers remain our top priority,” the NRC reiterated.

While the exact resumption date is yet to be announced, the NRC assured the public that details on the full service schedule will be made available in the coming days.
